Overcoming Shame

Don’t let shame or guilt stop you from showing up.

Don’t let other’s opinion of you or fear of judgment stop you from getting healthier.

Starting the gym or restarting the gym can bring all kinds of emotions. You may feel fear of not knowing what to do once you get there, not fitting in, or being judged. You can feel guilt for having gained weight and getting off track.

I felt it coming back to the gym after having Elise. I gained 70lbs and was ashamed because I was already in the fitness industry. I thought I was supposed to bounce right back, but guess what? I didn’t! I would go to the gym at 4am unable to even look at myself in the mirror for the first few months. However, I knew that if I showed up, I would eventually feel better and more comfortable. And eventually I did!

I also speak to multiple people a day, looking to be healthier and every single time they let me know how intimidating it is for them.

Here’s the thing, yes, it’s going to be hard, you’re going to struggle, but you will never get better, fitter, healthier unless you start where you are now!

Of course, it’s easy for me to explain how amazing our community is! We are a zero-judgment zone, and we make sure everyone feels comfortable when they enter a training session. We all started somewhere, we know the struggle, and we make sure we make everyone feel welcome.

Unfortunately, not everyone can make it to our amazing gym so here are a few tips you can do to get started if you’re feeling scared, guilty or ashamed to go to the gym.

  1. Grab a gym buddy for support.

  2. Plan out a workout before you get there so you don’t feel too lost.

  3. Join a community or class where you are guided by an instructor and all you have to do is show up!

Don’t stand in your own way of reaching your goals. Be patient to yourself be kind to yourself and keep showing up.
